Before your visit

This page has practical information for you who are planning or considering a visit.

Welcome to Uppåkra

Uppåkra Archeological Center is the meeting place for archeology, interdisciplinary collaboration, and the spread of knowledge about the largest and most significant Iron Age settlement in northern Europe. The Uppåkra Archeological Center Foundation is works for public benefit and has long-range plans for the development of Uppåkra as a visitor’s site.

To best familiarize yourself with Uppåkra’s rich history we recommend one of our guided tours. These are led by experienced archeologists who with passion discuss and explain its past. We have several different tours and workshops, and our offerings vary between the seasons. Click here to see our current offering of tours and for more information. At present the excavation of the Hall on the hill is progress, under the direction of Lund University, and starting 15 June tours for this will be available. You can even on your own see some of Uppåkra’s finds at Lund University Historical Museum.

As visitor, beyond our opening times you can on your own stroll the footpaths, read the informative signposts, gaze across the landscape and get a better idea of the large and significant Iron Age settlement that lies under your feet. You can also download the app “Uppåkra – Hidden History” with an audio guide to discover Uppåkra on your own. Information is provided in both Swedish and English. In our cozy garden you will find the Little Garden Café with outdoor seating. Here you can even see Uppåkra’s Cult House in a miniature 1:3 scale, as well as use your mobile phone on designated QR codes to see how Uppåkra looked over a thousand years ago.

Prices for the different guided tours are found on the pages of the respective tours here on our webpage. Tickets for guided tours can only be purchased online; check under “Guided Tours”.
